NRG change IGLs after false start to 2024

daps' return to play was ultimately short-lived.

After a frustrating beginning to 2024, NRG has elected to make some dramatic changes to its roster. Damien "daps" Steele will no longer remain in the starting lineup as he has voluntarily withdrawn and will become the squad's new head coach, the Canadian confirmed to Dust2.us.

As part of that move, analyst Josh "m1cks" Micks will no longer be retained by NRG. He was informed of their decision to part ways yesterday.

Finally, NRG have sought the services of Colby "Walco" Walsh to become the squad's newest IGL, reuniting the young tactician with Jadan "HexT" Postma who played with him for several years on RBG, Carpe Diem, and then in Evil Geniuses. This will also see Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte be joined by another member of the Evil Geniuses Blueprint project, before being benched and released by the organization last year.

The move is also interesting for Walco, who joined Party Astronauts only a few weeks ago. This will now be his fourth team in as many months in 2024, following his time on Carpe Diem and Evil Geniuses as well.

Daps told Dust2.us that NRG were unable to acquire more than one player from Evil Geniuses at the time of the roster formation due to difficulties regarding buyouts. With NRG needing to create the roster to qualify for the next season of North American ESL Challenger League, the roster became rushed and daps found himself as the IGL.

The squad needed changes after a disappointing beginning to the year. While the squad earned an invite into ESL Challenger League Season 47, they failed to qualify for the Americas RMR, IEM Chengdu 2024, the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown 2024, ESL Challenger Melbourne 2024, or IEM Dallas 2024.

The NRG roster is now:

  • United States Josh "oSee" Ohm

  • United States Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte

  • Canada Jadan "HexT" Postma

  • Canada Justin "FaNg" Coakley

  • Canada Colby "Walco" Walsh

  • Canada Damian "daps" Steele (Coach)

NRG have their new roster set to debut on March 14th, scheduled to play against Limitless in the North American ESL Challenger League.

I really thought highly of Walco's leadership during the RBG days, hopefully he can do something with this team.

Well.... That is disappointing. As much as I respect Walco I don't think daps was really given a great chance considering they didn't even attend one bootcamp that I am aware of. Regardless I still have high hopes for the squad.

if you read the article it states that daps stepped down on his own accord

Fair enough. I did read it but I guess I just forgot about that part lmao. Still would have preferred if daps stayed as the IGL.

considering the results with the daps this feels like a solid move.

I agree it is a solid move. I just have a bit of nostalgia and hoped daps could do what he did with nrg years ago considering at the beginning of that storied roster they didn't get great results initially. You'd also think with his grasp of the meta being liquids coach he would have more up his sleeve. Just NA copium at its finest I suppose

jokes aside i still don't see them hitting the top of NA CS but hopefully they can now compete with BOSS, Nouns, and Wildcard?
