Wildcard eliminated from Major contention
Wildcard's time at the PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR has come to an end at the hands of their countrymen, M80. The squad suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to become the third North American squad to be eliminated from Major contention so far.
There are several positives to takeaway from Wildcard's time in Monterrey, namely the convincing series against BESTIA to ensure their survival to the third day of competition.
Wildcard's final match in Mexico saw themselves in a do-or-die match against M80 due to the event's gruelling two-loss elimination swiss format. The series started on their own pick of Mirage. Wildcard started things right by winning the T-side pistol, but that would be almost all they got as M80 ran them over to secure 10 rounds in a row before closing out the map in the second half 13-5.
Vertigo, M80's pick, also started out strong for Wildcard as they took a 5-1 CT-side lead, but they would let that slip away as M80 roared back to take a 7-5 first half lead. Wildcard somehow found the strength to comeback on their T-side as they won eight rounds in a row to surprise M80 and force a final map with a 13-8 win.
The decider on Inferno once again saw the squad on the back foot as they went down 10-2 in the first half thanks to M80's utter domination on the defense thanks to Ethan "reck" Serrano playing like a man on a mission. The second half wouldn't last too much longer as M80 closed out the map 13-3 to secure their survival in the Major.
Wildcard will now head back home, but with a lot more experience together as one of North America's more exciting teams.
