Liquid mount comeback to reach IEM Dallas 2024 Closed Qualifier
Liquid have successfully completed their IEM Dallas Open Qualifier #1 run after managing a comeback against Party Astronauts in the final match of the qualifier, which was the cherry on top of a comfortable path during the event.
Liquid now joins BOSS and Nouns in the IEM Dallas Closed Qualifier, where they await the last team to join them from the second IEM Dallas Open Qualifier, which starts later today.
Picking up where we left off, the quarterfinals saw Liquid beat ex-CatEvil 13-3, MIGHT surviving Take Flyte with a 13-11 win, NRG defeating Wildcard with a solid 13-8 scoreline, and Party Astronauts comfortably overcoming One More 13-6.
The semifinals put Liquid up against MIGHT, who they beat 13-6 despite a strong T-side from Noah "Nifty" Francis and co. Partynauts had a bit more trouble against NRG, falling 8-4 on the CT-side of Vertigo, which eventually turned into a 13-10 win on the back of, yet again, Adam "WolfY" Andersson, who has been consistently good throughout this qualifier.
The grand final between Liquid and Party Astronauts started off on PA's pick of Anubis, with WolfY still hot from the game prior. The AWPer put up an incredible 22-8 K-D, 130 ADR, and 2.12 Rating stat line to get the opening map win for his team 13-5. Liquid would tie the series on their own Inferno, on the back of a good T-side as Casper "cadiaN" Møller finished the half with 100% KAST and a 9-3 lead which turned into a 13-8 final score.
To end the series, both teams headed to Ancient where they fought until the very end. Liquid opened the map with a 7-5 T-side half and PA was falling behind 11-6 to start the second half but the team managed to get to an 11-9 deficit. It would be too late as Liquid was able to trade rounds on the way to the 13-10 win.
With this win, Liquid advances to the Closed Qualifier where they are joining Nouns and BOSS. The three teams will find out who will be joining them from the second and final Open Qualifier tomorrow. IEM Dallas 2024 Open Qualifier #2 starts today.
