Gen.G returns to CS with unknown Chinese squad
The Korean-American organization announced the signing of a Chinese Counter-Strike squad on their Weibo page. The organization had previously hinted at returning to the title and would find themselves looking to China as the entry region.
The organization previously hosted a North American CS:GO team led by Damian "daps" Steele from December 2019 through January 2021 before transitioning away from the title. Despite Gen.G's having bases of operation in both South Korea and North America, the organization has pursued a Chinese squad that is relatively unknown.
Gen.G started their venture into North American Counter-Strike with immediate success as the roster headlined by Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand and Sam "s0m" Oh would go on to win one of the few LAN events of 2020; DreamHack Open Anaheim 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise of VALORANT, the roster would go through a number of issue before eventually falling apart.
When Gen.G first announced they were looking at a Chinese roster, the organization noted that China was a growth region. Additionally, the company owns the a NBA 2K franchise named after the city, the Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai, who have been playing out of the University of Kentucky as of late.
The new Gen.G team is:
-
Zichao "s1" Li
-
Yuhao "rosar" Zhou
-
Yihang "sanres" Yang
-
Liang "screamy" Ma
-
Jinghao "miracle" Jin
-
