oNe ease past Secret Club, Depth eliminate RBG in MDL Season 35 playoffs
The second day of ESEA MDL Season 35 playoffs has come to a close, seeing oNe be the first team to earn a spot in the upper bracket finals. Meanwhile, Depth saw to the elimination of RBG, while Mythic scored a map win over New England Whalers before packet and loss issues on ESEA servers led to the rest of the series being postponed to tomorrow at 5 PM EST.
oNe wasted little time in making short work of Secret Club, kicking off Inferno with a 10-5 lead on the CT-side. A pistol and subsequent win against Secret Club's eco put the Brazilians up 12-5 before Jordan "jitter" Ruggiero's side were able to respond, winning seven of the ensuing eight rounds to bring themselves within one round of their opposition. However, oNe stabilized, winning three in a row to bring the map to an end and steal away Secret Club's map pick 16-12, moving the series on to their own pick of Train.
There, it was an entirely one-sided affair as Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa and Bruno "b4rtiN" Câmara led the way for their side, running up a 13-2 lead at the end of their offensive effort before closing out the map 16-3 to take the series.
Meanwhile, Depth dealt RBG a fatal blow in a three-map series, although it seemed as if RBG would take the win as the series got underway on their pick of Inferno. A 10-5 lead on the CT-side gave way to a 16-7 scoreline in the favor of the Canadian side, but Depth were able to answer right back on their pick of Mirage, making up for a 2-6 start as they took control and fought back into the series, securing the map 16-11.
Overpass was the deciding ground, with RBG initially pulling ahead 5-2 on the attack before Depth responded in kind, edging out a one-round lead by the break. A pistol win from RBG following the side swap tied up the match, but a force-buy swung momentum in Depth's favor as they moved up to a 13-9 lead. It seemed as if RBG would manage a comeback as they won four in a row to once again tie up the score at 13-13, but a final string of three from Depth sealed the fate of Austin "gmanchew" Vieira's troops as the series was brough to a close.
The third day of playoffs will kick off at 5 PM EST as Mythic and New England Whalers look to finish off their series, with the ensuing lower bracket round and upper bracket final taking place at 8 PM EST.
