paiN and Rugratz set to meet in WINNERS League FPL Cup 1 finals
The first day of WINNERS League FPL Cup 1 came to a close on September 27th, with paiN and a Rugratz mixteam battling their way to the finals ahead of the 62 other entrants.
The first three rounds of the cup were relatively quiet, with the events top teams making it through without trouble. The only MDL squad of note to fall at this point was ImPerium, who were dispatched in a close 16-14 loss to a Rebirth lineup that featured Zack "XotiC" Elshani and David "Sneaky" Polster in place of Kevin "4pack" Przypasniak and Sean "Inseaniac" Morrison.
Moving into the quarterfinals, Rebirth claimed another close victory over MDL opposition as they sent New England Whalers packing with a 19-17 win on Dust2. Up next, the same Rugratz mix spotted in the fourth ESEA Summer Cup bested Secret Club once again, taking the top MDL side down 16-14 on Mirage. The final two matches of the quarterfinals saw both Brazilian sides make it through as paiN bested Kinship 16-10 on Nuke while Yeah crushed Sixth Gear 16-5 on Overpass.
Both semifinals ended up being equally one-sided compared to the preceding quarterfinals, as Rugratz claimed a 16-9 win over Rebirth on Nuke while paiN claimed their second win over Yeah with a 16-8 victory on Overpass.
With only two teams left standing, Rugratz and paiN will face off on September 30th at 3PM EDT for the lion's share of the $4,000 prizepool
