Liquid fall to FaZe
Liquid and FaZe faced off in a qualification match for the BLAST Premier Spring Final in London, where the loser would still have a chance to qualify through the play-in stage against G2, who had lost earlier today. Unfortunately for the American squad, Faze would take the 2-0 win despite two very close maps.
It was the first time Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken faced his old team and he put on an incredible stat line, finishing the first map with 28 kills and 100 ADR, showing he can still be a star rifler.
The first map was Nuke, picked by FaZe, and it was intense from beginning to end, as both teams were able to show good Counter-Strike during both halves. Liquid started off on the CT-side with a 4-1 lead that shrunk to a 4-4 tie but ultimately turned into a 7-5 half in favor of the American squad. The second half saw the rise of FaZe's CT-side which followed the same path as Liquid's with a 4-1 start to the half that turned into a 4-4 tie but this time FaZe were able to close the side with four straight rounds, ending the map 13-11 ahead.
Liquid's pick of Mirage had a similar start, with the American team up 4-1 early on and then falling, again, to a 4-4 tie on the T-side this time. After that, the teams traded rounds which culminated in a 6-6 half. Liquid opened the CT-side with the pistol round win and the following round as well but FaZe would start a flawless run to reach map point 12-8. Liquid got one back but FaZe would close the match right after 13-9.
With this loss, Liquid will have to face G2 for a direct spot in the BLAST Premier Spring Final tomorrow at 11:00AM, while FaZe are already confirmed in London. If Liquid lose against G2, they will still have one more chance during the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown.
