M80 irked at Nouns over server location
Some late drama occurred last night following the M80 v. Nouns matchup where the former came away with a close 2-1 win that saw them advance to the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR which begins later this March.
In a post following the match, M80's star rifler Michael "Swisher" Schmid said it was "kinda cringe" that Nouns were not willing to change servers when everyone was having packet loss issues. Teammate Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa chimed in, also calling it "cringe" that the match was not being played on a "clean server".
Nouns coach Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen responded to the posts with his own side of the story, explaining that the team had "complained about the packet loss first" and even offered to switch the server location to Denver. He went on to say that M80 had declined that offer and wanted to play on a Chicago-based server.
In response to that, Swisher said that "Denver would have been worse for everyone" and that the "Denver average [ping] would have been 28 for you guys, 42 for us".
Finally, SEMPHIS appeared to defuse the entire situation as he explained that the server location issue "wasn't some elaborate plan to gain a massive ping advantage" as the team also was experiencing loss across all five players. He congratulated the team on the win and Nouns would later go on to qualify that night as they defeated Carpe Diem 2-0.
Nouns and M80 will not have to complain about the server location at the RMR where the two will most likely meet face-to-face on LAN as they hope to make it to Copenhagen.
