M80 win Mythic Winter Cup 2023
Mythic Winter Cup 2023 has come to an end with M80 winning the $4,000 after defeating Nouns in the grand final. Nouns took home $1,000 while the rest of the field didn't get any share of the prize pool. The two qualified teams, Akimbo and Torqued, fell in round one, with every invited roster proving to be stronger.
This event was one of the first for the new NRG squad, who ended up in 3rd-4th after losing the grand final spot to Nouns with a 2-0 defeat. On the other side of the bracket, Adam "WolfY" Andersson faced M80, while playing for BOSS, but couldn't help his new team reach the finals, losing 2-0 as well. Left behind at the start of the tournament were Akimbo and Torqued, who lost to Nouns and M80, and Wildcard and Party Astronauts, who lost to NRG and BOSS, respectively.
The grand final was a two-map game, with M80 taking the win in both. First was Vertigo, picked by M80, and it featured a big comeback from Michael "Swisher" Schmid's squad. After being down 11-5 on the T-side, M80 managed to get eight round wins uninterrupted and take the Vertigo win 13-11.
Nuke was calmer for the M80 side, with the team reaching the half 10- 2 ahead on the CT-side. Nouns managed to get closer, but M80 only needed three more rounds to win the event and, after Nouns won four, M80 closed the series with a 13-6 Nuke.
Fritz "slaxz-" Dietrich was the highest-rated player in the grand final, just a month after joining the team. slaxz- will have more chances to prove himself during the ESL Challenger Atlanta 2023 which starts on December 15th.
