Bad News Bears disbands; Umar and nicx look to build new roster
Dust2.us has confirmed that Bad News Bears has disbanded following the team's relegation from ESL Challenger League Season 46. The famous NA tag was relegated in their first season of ECL after a 3-11 record saw the team have to play in relegation, where the squad was sent down into Advanced after losses to Reason and Rocket.
It is worth noting, however, that the writing was on the wall for some time, as Bad News Bears never made a move to replace Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek after he was acquired by Wildcard in early November. Likewise, Joshua "steel" Nissan had also been out of the team since November as well, leaving the team to use Nick "nicx" Lee and Owen "SummY" Mustard as stand-ins for Relegation. This came after steel announced his intentions to focus on content creation and broadcast work for the foreseeable future.
With this short-lived and uneventful iteration of BNB coming to an end, it is possibly the end of the road for the NA tag. With previous users of the tag like Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman, Gabe "Spongey" Greiner, and Peter "ptr" Gurney either retired or otherwise out of action at the moment, a revival seems highly unlikely, leaving few to claim the mantle.
The news isn't all bad though, as Umar "Umar" Qaiser and nicx have announced their intentions to use the former BNB's Advanced spot to build a new squad. At the moment it consists of just the duo, but may soon see more interest as there is a chance of the team garnering a move up to ECL as Evil Geniuses and ex-Eros White are unlikely to field a squad next season. The only issue would be ex-BNB needing to assemble a roster to play against LAG for this spot, something that could prove difficult as it would be a combination of their former BNB teammates.
The ex-Bad News Bears rebuild currently consists of:
-
Umar "Umar" Qaiser
-
Nick "nicx" Lee
