Shakezullah secured victory in a bout against his former team

First round of MDL Season 33 playoffs concludes; Triumph send Chaos to lower bracket

The first round of the upper bracket also saw oNe, Under 21, and Bad News Bears secure victories over their opposition.

The first round of the MDL Season 33 playoffs upper bracket has concluded, with the most notable result seeing Chaos sent down to the lower bracket following an 0-2 loss to Triumph.

Peter "ptr" Gurney's Bad News Bears were the first to prevail as they made short work of Rugratz in their opening matchup. An 11-4 CT scoreline on Vertigo quickly gave way to a 16-8 map win for ptr's troops, with Rugratz battling back on Inferno to keep the score within one round at the half. Once Bad News Bears were on the offense however, they gave Rugratz no opportunity to continue their fight, winning eight straight rounds to secure a 16-7 win.

Meanwhile, Recon 5 found themselves on the receiving end of a battering from oNe, with the Brazilian side dominating Dust2 16-0 to open the series. Recon 5 fared no better on their own pick of Inferno as they were left facing a 5-13 deficit, although they managed to climb back to grab thirteen rounds of their own before oNe took the second map to close the series.

Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman won the battle of the Chaos coaches as his Triumph squad proved victorious over Joshua "steel" Nissan's side, with Matthew "mCe" Elmore continuing to fill in for Hunter "SicK" Mims due to the roster lock. A 10-5 lead at the end of their Inferno defense left Triumph in position to take the map in quick fashion, but it wasn't until overtime that they were able to prevail over Chaos 19-16.

Overpass was an entirely different affair as Triumph remained in control throughout the map, with Logan "Voltage" Long and Michael "Grim" Wince helping to power their side to a 16-7 victory.

The only series to go to all three maps was between the No. 1 seeded side of Under 21 and the stream team of Mythic. Erick "Xeppaa" Bach and company intially ran up a five-round lead at the break of Vertigo, but Mythic's aggressive offense following the side swap proved to reign supreme as they only gave up one round on the road to a 16-11 map win.

Mythic continued to lead as Mirage got underway, holding an 8-3 lead before Under 21 rallied back to a 9-6 scoreline at halftime. Once they were on the defense, Xeppaa's side gained the upper hand, managing to keep Mythic at bay as they fought back to narrowly edge the map 16-14.

Xeppaa's strong form continued on Dust2, helping his side run up a 9-6 scoreline of their own at the end of their defensive effort. Under 21's T-side also proved to be relentless as they left Mythic little opportunity to fight back, eventually taking a 16-12 win to close out the series.
