MDL Season 33 regular season concludes; Under 21 fight their way to first seed
The final day of the regular season for MDL Season 33 has come to an end, with eight teams clinching their spots in the playoffs.
ESEA hasn't released the official standings for the regular season yet, but they will likely look as follows:
- Under 21
- Recon 5
- Bad News Bears
- Triumph
- Chaos
- Rugratz
- oNe
- Mythic
- Swole Identity
- Station7
- Monstars
- Big Frames
- District 7
- Divine
- New England Whalers
- Oceanus
- Infinity
- Thunder Logic
- In The Lab
-
Swole Patrol -
Envy -
New Patrol
Sixteen matches took place last night to round out a nearly 100 match week, culminating with Under 21 managing to finish ahead of more established squads with an impressive 20-2 record.
Another Cinderella story came in the form of Recon 5, with the team ending the season with a 19-3 record. The achievement is even more impressive considering this is the first season of MDL for four out of five players.
Rounding out the list of teams to claim a playoff berth is Mythic, with the stream team finishing two wins ahead of Swole Identity with a 14-8 record.
Towards the bottom of the league, the now defunct Divine lineup, New England Whalers, Oceanus, Infinity, Thunder Logic, and In The Lab will all be facing relegation this season. This season marked a dramatic reversal of fortunes for Divine and New England Whalers, as the core of both rosters made playoffs in Season 32.
The playoff bracket would be expected to look as such:
Under 21 | vs. | Mythic |
Recon 5 | vs. | oNe |
Bad News Bears | vs. | Rugratz |
Triumph | vs. | Chaos |
The MDL Season 33 playoffs are set to run from March 17th to the 19th and will offer three spots to the ESEA MDL Season 33 Global Challenge. That event is currently scheduled for April, although COVID-19 concerns may cause a change of plans. The three North American teams will face off against four European teams and one Asia-Pacific team for $75,000 and three spots in ESL Pro League Season 12.
MDL Relegation is set to start on April 7th, and assuming no MDL teams disband from now until then, it will feature the 14th-19th place MDL teams alongside the 2nd-6th place Advanced teams and one potential invited team.
