Liquid and FURIA invited to Thunderpick World Championship 2023
Liquid and FURIA are the last two teams announced to be invited to the Thunderpick World Championship 2023. The online event is set to run in Europe from October 27th to November 5th and has a prize pool of $500,000, with the winner taking home $250,000.
This is huge news for both Liquid and FURIA, as both teams have struggled to find results and, as a result, have fairly open calendars for the rest of the year. Liquid's schedule for the rest of 2023 was completely empty after failing to qualify for the BLAST Premier Fall Final, and Thunderpick has given the team more chances to try and make a mark with their European core.
For FURIA things are not as bleak. The Brazilians are playing at the Brazilian Games Show Esports 2023, a national videogames expo, featuring FURIA, paiN, W7M, and Meta. This will be Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's first Brazilian LAN in seven years. After that, the team will play in the Roobet Cup, after being invited, as well.
Thunderpick World Championship 2023 will feature four North American organizations, Complexity, Nouns, M80, and Wildcard, and five North American rosters if daps plays in place of Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov.
The event is separated into two stages, group stage and playoffs. The group stage will feature four groups of four teams, with a GSL format and Bo3 games, where the top two teams will advance to the playoffs. The playoffs will consist of a single-elimination bracket and all series will be Bo3. The event will be played in Counter-Strike 2.
