Liquid set to face EliGE for first time in 8+ years
The finals of the BLAST Premier Fall American Showdown is set to be a historic matchup between Complexity and Liquid for a number of reasons. On the surface it will be the first time Complexity has played Liquid since the latter team transitioned into a European core. This gives the match some additional stakes, as Complexity has worked hard to usurp Liquid's throne as "America's team."
More enticing however, is that this will be the first time Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski has faced Liquid as an opponent since joining Complexity. Once thought impossible for Liquid's former franchise player, Liquid announced back in June their decision to part ways with EliGE after eight years of a region-defining partnership.
To put it context how long EliGE and Liquid had been together, EliGE has only played Liquid once in his entire career, with the 2015 match against Liquid being his first match on HLTV. Likewise, at the point Liquid had only be in CS:GO for a little over a month at this point, having only just picked up Eric "adreN" Hoag and co. after they left Denial.
In a sense, the fact that Liquid brought Damian "daps" Steele in as a stand-in for this event is fitting as daps and Keith "NAF" Markovic bested EliGE back then in 2015 and now, for the last professional CS:GO match in history the trio will face each other down for one last time.
This historic match is set to begin today at 02:30PM.
