Bad News Bears look to enlist zakk
With the ESL One Rio Americas Minor Closed Qualifier this week, Dust2.us has learned that Bad News Bears are currently trialing former Luminosity coach Rafael "zakk" Fernandes, adding him to their ESEA roster yesterday. zakk has been out of action for the last five months following Luminosity's decision to drop their CS:GO team and leave the scene.
Members of the Bad News Bears lineup tell Dust2.us that zakk's trial is currently in its early stages, with the Brazilian coach having recently started giving input in practice sessions. This is zakk's first time working with an English-speaking team, having previously worked with the Brazilian Tempo Storm, Immortals, and Luminosity lineups. He is best known for helping lead Immortals to a second finish at PGL Major Kraków 2017 where the team fell in a close 2-1 loss to Gambit.
If zakk decides to stay on with Bad News Bears he would join a short list of Brazilian coaches to work with North American teams, with Wilton "zews" Prado and Luis "peacemaker" Tadeu being the only coaches that have done so thus far.
Bad News Bears have been on the lookout for a new coach following the departure of Brandon "weber" Weber from Riot Squad back in January.
If the two parties decide to continue working together on a permanent basis, Bad News Bears would be:
- Peter "ptr" Gurney
- Austin "crashies" Roberts
- Mitch "mitch" Semago
- Jonathan "Jonji" Carey
- Michael "dapr" Gulino
- Rafael "zakk" Fernandes (Coach)
Bad News Bears are set to take on Rugratz in their opening match of ESL One Rio Americas Minor Closed Qualifier on March 7th.
