Complexity clear through 9INE
Long has America waited for one of their teams to win in the opening match of ESL Pro League. Complexity, one that has been questioned for the inability to immediately improve following the addition of Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, were able to put their doubters on notice after a comfortable 2-victory that could have easily been a 2-0 if their comeback on Vertigo came to fruition.
The first map saw Complexity on Anubis, a map they have been practicing more and more as of late. While their slow T-side did not help them, with only six rounds to their name, it was their dominant CT-side that powered them through to a 16-11 victory. The CT-side was a masterclass, with 9INE looking uncomfortable throughout the map as they found the Americans' defense impenetrable.
Complexity looked to Vertigo to close it all out, but this was a map that is known by all to be home to 9INE. The match started like many thought it would - with 9INE orchestrating a dominant 10-5 T-side half, that put them closer to the edge of victory. While Complexity did launch a second half T-side comeback, it would be too little too late as they could not overcome the 12-5 deficit and fell 16-12 on their opponent's map.
Ancient was a surprise pick for the last map, with analysts and fans concerned that given Complexity's history on the map, it would be a drubbing. While Complexity did start out with a 6-1 deficit, they bounced back in the strongest of ways on their T-side as they powered to a 8-7 first half. With the sides switched, 9INE took the first lead, but Complexity was never out of the game as they came back to win 16-13 after several close rounds.
