M80 falls after Inferno thriller
It was simply not M80's day, despite how many clutches and pistol round wins seemed to go their way on Inferno. The squad seemed to have all the momentum while Apeks were scrambling to assert their dominance. With the first map seemingly going the way of M80 after a heroic full-eco pistol win to tie it at 14-14, NA fans rejoiced. Tragedy struck, suddenly we were headed into overtime and then it was a 2-0 with a second map drubbing.
Inferno started strong for M80, they won the pistol and stated out 4-2 on their T-side. While they did slightly lose the lead, they regained it and closed out the first half 8-7. The second half was similarly close, with clutch after clutch coming from both Marcus "maNkz" Kjeldsen and Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa, the two foreign stars on the squad. A 14-13 full-eco pistol round win sent the squad close to map victory, but Apeks pulled a rabbit out of the hat and recovered, bringing the game to overtime where they put away a clean win, 19-15.
Going into Apeks' pick of Mirage, it was already going to be trouble for M80 as they have only played the map twice in the last three months. Now, M80 won both of those maps, one against Nouns and one against Party Astronauts, but Apeks isn't any old NA team. The first half was nothing more than a mauling as Apeks ran riot over the Americans' defense on their way to take a commanding 12-3 lead into their CT-side. The second half wasn't much better for NA as Apeks closed out the map 16-3 to take a clean 2-0.
M80, licking their wounds, will play the loser of Natus Vincere v. 5yclone.
