Divine, LiViD, Polar Ace, Ze Pug Godz advance to second ESL One Rio qualifier semifinals
Day one of the second qualifier for ESL One Rio 2020 has concluded, seeing MDL squads Divine and LiViD joined by Advanced side Polar Ace and mixteam Ze Pug Godz.
Compared to the first qualifier, round one saw no major upsets as the majority of the higher-seeded teams made it through to the next round without much trouble.
In the second round the first major upsets took place as Ze Pug Godz, using Jason "neptune" Tran in place of Derrick "LILMAN" Boyne from their previous outing, secured a narrow 16-12 win over Pujan "FNS" Mehta's Orgless. Elsewhere in the bracket Josh "JoshRT" Lee's Prospects also claimed a 16-12 win against MDL squad Thunder Logic.
The third round of the qualifier saw Ze Pug Godz continue their upset run as Bradley "ANDORID" Fodor led the way for his team to win Inferno 16-10 over number one seed New England Whalers. Additionally, Prospects also managed to fight on with a 16-12 win over Asuna's Anime Aimers, albeit with Ramal "Rampage" Silva standing in for Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk.
In the fourth round, Prospects' run was finally put to an end as Ze Pug Godz crushed the team 16-3 on Mirage.
In a far closer affair, Polar Ace claimed their spot in the semifinals with a 16-12 win against Monstars.
Finally, LiViD and Divine claimed the last two spots with 16-7 wins over Mythic and Station 7, respectively.
