Complexity claim Thunderpick's $20,000 qualifier prize
Complexity and Nouns met in the grand finals to see who would take home the $20,000 prize money, and the Dallas-based team came out victorious. Nouns didn't lose everything though, as a spot in the main event was already guaranteed and they also received $5,000 for finishing in second place.
Both teams will travel to Europe in order to play the main event which has a $500,000 prize pool. Thunderpick World Championship 2023 will run from October 27th to November 5th, and it will be an online event.
The series between Complexity and Nouns wasn't a long one. The match had Anubis as its opener, picked by Complexity. Nouns chose to start on the T-side but that proved to be the wrong move, as Complexity completely dominated the first half, with a 13-2 score. Going into the second half, Nouns tried to mount a comeback even winning a force buy after losing the pistol, but the lead was too big to surmount. Complexity took Anubis 16-6.
Going into Nouns' pick of Nuke, Complexity decided to start on the CT-side, and in this case, it was the right move. Complexity went into the half with a huge 12-3 lead, as Nouns' T-side was simply not working during the grand final. Once again, the CT-side was better for Nouns, but the game was already out of reach. Complexity closed the map 16-7 and the series 2-0, to claim the $20,000 prize money.
Despite the loss, Nouns had already clinched a spot in the main event, where they, and Complexity, will join fellow Americans M80 and Wildcard. The other already-confirmed teams are Heroic, ENCE, MOUZ, and BIG.
