Complexity, Nouns secure spots at Thunderpick World Championship
Yesterday held the semifinals of the second Thunderpick World Championship qualifier for North America, and with two spots up for grabs, that meant whoever won the semis would be in for the main event. We had two amazing games to decide these two spots: Complexity against Forsaken and Evil Geniuses against Nouns.
Complexity's series was a dominant one through and through. On Forsaken's pick of Inferno, Complexity got out to an early lead, and while Forsaken fought back initially, Complexity pulled away at the half and controlled the map till the very end. Stealing their opponent's map pick, you'd think Complexity would have an easy 2-0, but as Forsaken have shown in the past month, they will do anything but roll over. Complexity's pick was immediately under scrutiny as Forsaken got off to an incredible 11-1 lead on their defense and won the map with a fair T-side. Forsaken's luck dried up on Vertigo as Complexity controlled the map from start to finish and secured their spot at the Thunderpick World Championship.
In Nouns' series against Evil Geniuses, map picks made a bit more sense than the previous matchup. Nouns' Mirage was an extremely secure pick. Their T-side put up double-digit numbers and the CT-side brought it home for a dominant 16-6 scoreline. EG's Ancient was hotly contested, requiring three overtimes before a winner was decided. EG had the first map point in round 30, but they wouldn't be the only one to squander an opportunity to win as Nouns missed out on two of their own to secure the series in two. Evil Geniuses closed it out on the forty-eighth round, but Nouns weren't going to let the Geniuses off that easy.
Nuke, the decider, was an exceptionally close map. Nouns got off to an early lead on their T-side but EG brought the deficit to only one by the end of the first half. A strong CT-start for Nouns looked sure to spell doom for EG until a late-game boon for them which equaled the score at thirteen apiece. Finally, it was Nouns to close it out with three in a row with Edgar "MarKE" Maldonado leading the charge with a dominant 1.36 rating.
With those matches over, Nouns and Complexity join Wildcard and M80 as North America's four representatives at the Thunderpick World Championship. However, the games are not quite done for Col and Nouns. One more BO3 will decide who between them will deceive $20,000 and $5,000, not bad winnings along with qualifying for a half-million dollar prize pool.
