Bids for CS2 Majors open as Valves moves dates for 2025 and 2026

Tournament organizers are now able to send Valve their proposals for the 2025 and 2026 Majors, as the developer of the Counter-Strike franchise continues the trend of two Majors per year. Contrary to tradition, though, is a move in the usual dates for the biggest tournaments of the title, as Valve decided to shift them back by a month.

For a Major to be run by a tournament organizer, that TO needs to make a proposal to Valve, showing that they have what it takes to host such a prestigious event, and now the numerous entities like ESL, BLAST, and PGL, can send their bids regarding the 2025 and 2026 Majors. That's nothing new, as it has been a standard procedure, but now the dates during which the Major is played have changed. Instead of the normal May and November dates, the 2025 and 2026 Majors will be played in June and December. June 9th to 22nd and December 1st to 14th in the first year, and June 8th to 21st and November 30th to December 13th in the second year.

This change makes it so that the most important tournament of the circuit is the very last being played during the respective half of the year, right before the Summer and Winter break.

Valve has sent TOs some points that the developer uses to evaluate the different bids, including the importance given to the success of previous events held by the TO, how much can the TO entertain the CS2 customers, how the streams will be set up, and how the time zone must be convenient for the hours during which the tournament must be played (10:00AM and 03:00PM).

As was seen in 2021 and 2022, the same tournament organizer can host two Majors in a short interval of time, should they bid for more than one event.

2024 only has one Major scheduled so far, hosted by PGL in Copenhagen during the second half of March. It is unknown to the public whether a second Major is being planned, at the moment.
