Vorborg benched in EG coaching shuffle
Daniel "Vorborg" Vorborg has confirmed that his time as Evil Geniuses' head coach has come to an end, seeing the Dane head to the bench while Evil Geniuses is in the throes of a complete rebuild. The decision by the Seattle-based organization sees Vorborg end his time at the helm of the troubled roster after ten months.
Vorborg's time on Evil Geniuses started on a positive note, with the roster finding success as they made the IEM Rio Major 2022 after wins over Nouns, FURIA, and 9z in the RMR. This success was ultimately short-lived however as once the roster transitioned into 2023, the team found wins in short demand as they struggled to find a working system.
The most damning stat during this period was Evil Geniuses only claiming three Bo3 wins over six months, with one of those coming online against Mythic. While Vorborg quite evidently failed to meet the expectations set for him by the organization or Evil Geniuses' fans, his failure feels like a symptom rather than a cause for Evil Geniuses' fall from grace in North America. Amidst a lumbering and byzantine management and coaching staff, it suggests that this misadventure will hopefully not stymie efforts to find a new home post-player break.
For now though, Vorborg will await new opportunities to come in alongside the remaining pieces of the roster he tried, and failed, to return to the top of the scene.
