NA organization looks to build "world-class" CS2 roster
In August of 2022, a young organization by the name of M80 jumped into the North American esports scene. Headed by former XSET co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Marco Mereu, the organization immediately gained credibility for being founded by known industry professionals and longstanding effective leaders. M80 began with the acquisition of a North American VALORANT Challengers League roster, which is the tier below the franchised organizations. Since then, the team has dominated tier two and is bound for the Ascension tournament to play with the franchised league next season.
Since its creation, M80 also fields teams and players in Rocket League, Rainbow Six: Siege, and Street Fighter. On Thursday, their newly minted Head of Esports, former Sentinels VALORANT coach Donald "SyykoNT" Muir, told Dexerto, “In addition to supporting these existing rosters, I have sights set on Counter-Strike 2, and plan to build a world-class roster.”
M80 have recently secured $3 million in a seed funding round, which the organization said would be used to "expand its footprint across esports, content creation, and consumer products".
While SykkoNT did not mention which region M80 will look to build their CS2 roster from, the organization already draws from multiple regions. Their VALORANT and Rocket League teams are both North American, while their Rainbow Six: Seige team is comprised of a Brazilian core.
