TeSeS: "I think there is work to be done"
Heroic edged out Vitality in a three-map thriller in the finals of the BLAST Premier Spring Finals, securing the team's first trophy of the year. After the Heroic victory, René Madsen had a conversation with Dust2.us' Samuel "Draik04" Popkes to discuss the match, the team's global ranking, future events, the crowd, and more.
Congratulations on the win! How are you feeling?
That was insane, feeling so freaking good and so happy that we overcame this little curse that we have.
You guys looked good on Vertigo, let Mirage slip past, and had an early deficit on Inferno. Were you guys concerned at any point?
Well, the thing is that we have tried that so many times by now, and have been getting bad starts. It's nothing we haven't tried before, so we kept our heads cool and knew that we were gonna make a comeback on the CT-side. It ended up being 8-7, which was acceptable with the start we had.
This event you guys have had this approach where you talk about not expecting to win your big games. Do you feel like that helped the mentality this event?
I have no idea if it worked, or if it didn't. All we can say is that we won and we did this the whole time. For sure we have to try it again next time.
Was there anything different about your guys' approach to the event that may have contributed to the win?
Everyone was feeling comfortable going into the event even though we had this curse. Everyone felt like we should be winning tournaments all the time. We knew we were so close, and we just kept our heads high and believed in ourselves. All our philosophies and strategies, that's not the problem, the problem is mentally when we get on these stage games. We just have to experience it much more, and today was a big win for us.
Do you think this is gonna help on big stages later on?
I definitely think this is a big help, that we know that we have done it two times now in both BLAST tournaments. Now we just have to know that next time we play a stage game, yes we have won tournaments before, and we have played extremely well on stages and in big matches, so we have to find comfort in that.
One element of stage matches I want to talk about is the crowd. D.C. seemed to be big fans of Heroic today, did that contribute to the win?
Yeah, we love to play under fans that root for us. We have tried many times, and there are people that are booing at us at other tournaments, but that's how it is. I think we can control that pretty good in some matches, but when they are rooting for us it definitely helps more. We play so well when Casper [cadiaN] is playing with the crowd, getting them on our side, and it just boosts our energy up a lot.
At Dallas, we spoke to jabbi and he said you guys were the best team in the world. Do you think you are firmly the best in the world or is there work to be done?
For me, I think there is work to be done if we want to go by results. In terms of high level and who has the highest peak I think it is us, I think no one can beat us ever. That's just my thoughts and everyone has their own thoughts. Statistically, Vitality won the Major and IEM Rio before that and had a great half year I would say. So, they have more trophies than us.
There is no Major for the second half of the year. What are you guys setting your sights on? What are the goals?
There are still some big tournaments. I think one of them is Cologne and in the later part of the year, we'll have BLAST World Finals. I think those two tournaments are something we'll aim really high for and consider those two the big tournaments.
