cadiaN: "We didn't expect to win today, and we don't expect to win tomorrow"
The first semifinal at the BLAST Premier Spring Finals was a matchup few would have expected prior to the beginning of the event, as Heroic faced off against Imperial for a spot in the grand finals. After edging out Imperial on the Brazilian's pick of Overpass, Imperial put a halt to a monumental run from Heroic to take the series to Nuke. Up 15-7, Heroic allowed Imperial to drag the series into overtime, where the Danes eventually closed out the series with a belabored 19-17 scoreline.
Following the grueling win over Imperial, Heroic's in-game leader and AWPer, Casper "cadiaN" Møller chatted with Dust2.us' Samuel "Draik04" Popkes regarding his feelings after the win, the mental state of the team as it headed to a third map, and his thought's on the team's potential opponent for the grand finals.
That was a phenomenal game, how does it feel to pull through and make it to the grand final?
Good and bad. I think it was an amazing game, and then we made it a little more amazing than it should have been. They were fighting hard, and winning all the close rounds towards the comeback. Obviously, it's a joy now to win. I think especially on the third map, I saw some of my players step up individually in the way that I want to see them do so. Showed some of the characteristics that it's gonna take to win trophies.
Yesterday I spoke to zakk, who hyped up Imperial's T-side Overpass quite a bit. They lead at first, but you seemed to have answer. Was it from preparation, mid-game adjustments; what was the secret?
We play a very good T-side on Overpass, we know the dynamics of the map, and so do they. They were good at changing the pace, slow rounds, fast rounds, and we didn't play too well on the CT-side. I think overall, especially on the first two maps, there was some mistakes that, if you make those, you're not gonna win, you're especially not gonna win big trophies. I was also pretty mad about them in the game. We tried to move, I tried to bring the hype again, commend the boys for all the good things that they did, but there's still just some mistakes that if we're gonna make those we're not gonna win, and that's the name of the game.
You guys were up on Inferno and that ended up slipping away. As third map goes into Nuke what is the mood in the team?
It's good. We had a good talk after the second map. Just cheering the boys up and focusing on playing a good map. I think stavn on the CT-side was amazing, he single-handedly won a lot of the rounds. It felt good.
You're up against G2 or Vitality for the grand finals. How do you feel about the potential matchups?
Massive underdogs, you know. We didn't expect to win today, and we don't expect to win tomorrow.
