Complexity stay alive while Evil Geniuses are eliminated
The first set of 1-1 matches have drawn to a close, with Complexity moving to the 2-1 pool after winning their game versus Imperial. Unfortunately along with Imperial, Evil Geniuses will also be packing their bags and going home. Complexity, however, still needs to win one more game if they are to make it to the BLAST.tv Paris Major.
Complexity's series against Imperial kicked off on the latter squad's pick of Overpass, where Imperial took a commanding 8-2 lead on the T-side, despite Complexity laying claim to the first pistol round. Complexity managed to stop the bleeding towards the end of the half, bringing the deficit to five rounds at the side swap. Imperial snatched the second pistol round, but Complexity's T-side proved to be too much for the Brazilians to handle, as Imperial would only snag two more rounds as Complexity stole their pick 16-13.
The North American side kept their momentum up on their pick of Nuke with another stellar T-side, taking an early 8-2 lead. Imperial managed to rebuff the offense on occasion, keeping Complexity honest with a 9-6 scoreline. Off the back of the second pistol round, Imperial not only tied up the scoreline but also managed to eclipse Complexity to take the lead. On the back foot for the first time this map, Complexity soon regained the composure they had on the offense as they marched ahead to a 16-12 victory on their pick.
Meanwhile, Evil Geniuses faced off against Paquetá in their all-important elimination match, with that series beginning on the Geniuses' choice of Inferno. While things were initially kept close with a 4-3 scoreline, Evil Geniuses managed to break away on their T-side to procure a 10-5 lead heading into the defense. A pistol round win in the second half poised Evil Geniuses to quickly close out the match, and although Paquetá managed to prevent a massive streak of rounds, Evil Geniuses still came out on top 16-8.
Mirage proved to be a slog for Evil Geniuses, with the North Americans unable to put together a streak of more than two rounds in a row on the defense, constantly being battered by Paquetá, resulting in a 7-8 deficit at the half. Thanks to the second pistol round Evil Geniuses were finally able to find that elusive streak of three rounds, but Paquetá were not content to roll over as they quickly responded with a streak of their own. As Evil Geniuses began to flounder, Paquetá capitalized to lock down their pick 16-14, dragging the series to an Overpass decider.
In the final deciding map, things started off quite poorly for the North Americas. On their T-side, they were only able to secure 5 rounds, giving a massive lead to Paquetá going into the second half. Once on the defensive side, EG were able to put up an equal performance to Paquetá, however, a 6-6 half meant that the Brazilian side reached a score of 16 and the map and series were over.
Depending on the remaining matches today, we will see Complexity with the possibility of being drawn to play anyone except the winner of Nouns vs Flamengo.
