T.c: "We need to tighten up our game"
As a result of Complexity's 16-10 loss to paiN on Nuke, the team are now one series away from missing out on the final Major in CS:GO. With that in mind, Ryan Friend spoke to Complexity's coach, Tiaan "T.c" Coertzen, to discuss what wrong in the series and what preparations need to happen to stay alive in Monterrey at the BLAST.tv Paris Major Americas RMR.
Rough loss against paiN, they have had NA's number for some time. How are you feeling coming out of that loss?
It's all on us to be honest. We lose so many rounds due to individual mistakes where we over peek against pistols when they have one weapon saved, then we're making silly individual mistakes. You can't really do much if you have a solid game but then over peeking and making individual mistakes and losing rounds because of that.
There's not really that much that we can take away from that except we need to tighten up our game at the end of the day.
As one of the more evenly matched 1-0 games, do you think this game was winnable by a bigger margin for you guys?
100%. If you look at our track record recently against paiN it's still been pretty good. I think the last time we played them was in the IEM Rio qualifier where we beat them. They have been looking sharp recently but this is definitely a loss that is entirely on us. Props to them and they did what they needed to do, but at the end of the day when we're making that many mistakes, it's hard to win.
The 1-1 elimination matches are looking like they'll be really tough. Is there any team you're hoping to avoid?
There's no one really that we're trying to avoid. We've had close games against a lot of teams that are left; MIBR, Imperial, you name it. We need to wait and see who makes it through then and who we get matched up against, but we need to beat most of the teams here if we want to qualify for the Major.
What are the next steps now, what's the focus to be ready for tomorrow?
Yeah I think it's not really about figuring out what went wrong today, it's about figuring out how we can tighten up our game and put up a stronger performance going forward.
With the new format, is facing elimination this early causing more pressure?
I think there definitely is pressure but the region put ourselves in this position by losing that extra spot at the Major. We have to come back tomorrow and do what we need to do.
Complexity will be back in action in their first, and potentially last, BO3 of the event as they look to make it to Paris.
