Uber comes back
Over the weekend, Michael "Uber" Stapells responded to a tweet from Bobby "stamina" Eitrem regarding the younger averages ages of North American players and the lack of mentors in the scene.
With the recent rise of VALORANT, many former CSGO professionals from the region have left, leaving a massive gap in guidance and leadership for the upstart region. Many have pointed to the decline of the region's performance in recent years and lack of youth prospects in due part to that exact lack of guidance.
When asked about why he has decided to come back now, Uber stated;
My desire to return to the scene is primarily fueled by how stable my life has become lately. When I unofficially retired in late 2018, my mother had been diagnosed with cancer. Stress had never been higher. Personal issues combined with these family problems prevented me from being able to compete in the years after.
There is nothing else in life that brings me more joy than competition. I’m happy to say that over the past year, my life has been as stable as ever. I’m making good money, living on my own, dating, exercising and eating healthy. I have a lot of extra spare time, regardless of all of this. I’d like to spend that spare time competing again. This will not only make me happy - but potentially provide assistance to the NA scene which I think lacks experienced players with a strong mental. Returning to CS - I already sense how strong of a read I have on rounds, often. I’m excited to find a team who will benefit from this.
While Uber is hoping to come back into the fold with relative ease, there will definitely be an adjustment period for the player. Thankfully, Uber has been closely following the professional scene for a bit, believing that he will be up to tune with the current game meta in place.
I’m hoping that my past experience competing at the top of NA and at some tier 1 events in the past, my read on the game and my positive mindset will help contribute to the issues stamina outlined in his tweets.
The Canadian is not yet looking to immediately join a team as he still believes he needs to brush up on his mechanics before he can fully contribute in a competitive environment.
