EG exit CCT in round one
After the side failed to make it through the IEM Katowice play-in, losing to Fnatic and Sprout, the North American side decided to play in the CCT North Europe play-offs before returning to American soil.
The team's opening match would be against Polish side Illuminar, who despite being ranked outside the top 50 are in a rich vein of form at the moment as they are on a seven match win streak since the start of 2023. Realistically the team should still have posed no real threat to EG, a team that will be playing in ESL Pro League in just a matter of weeks.
The match started on Nuke, EG's pick and despite Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte dropping 30 kills and Jadan "HexT" Postma pulling off multiple clutch situations the team were shockingly pushed all the way to Overtime. In overtime the two riflers cooled off and it left EG without the firepower to cover over the cracks in their gameplan, as they fell 17-19.
The second map would be Anubis, a map they have only played once so far losing to fellow NA side Complexity. The EG side started off well getting themselves in control of the map with a 12-7 lead, thanks in large part to Timothy "autimatic" Ta who finished the map with a 1.33 rating. Unfortunately for the former major winner the rest of his team failed to help drag the NA side over the line as they lost 16-14.
The loss is the latest in a string of poor results for the EG team who, despite a upset win over Heroic, have now failed to prove that as anything over than a fluke. The results against top sides can be excused but it is a real worrying sign that the team failed to even win a map against the 56th ranked team in the world.
