Four teams eliminated in round two of ADV S43 playoffs

The first set of lower bracket games saw four teams depart, meaning just twelve remain.

The core of favorites have avoided upsets in the upper bracket, meaning they’re set to collide tonight in what could be the best pair of series of the ADV season. With that being said, the bar is set high following the intense slate of lower-bracket games on Thursday.

#1 Davenport University 2-0 #9 Zero MarksMen

The #1 seeded Davenport continued their dominant playoff run against #9 Zero MarksMen with another 2-0 win. Both maps ended their respective first halves with tight 8-7 score lines, but both stories ended with Davenport crushing ZMM once the two switched sides. Once again, Denis “swicher” Banarov and William “spek” Smith were the battering rams for DU, sending ZMM to the lower bracket.

#5 1WIN 2-0 #4 Take Charge

This one sided affair was all 1WIN on both maps. The duo of Christian “REAL” Humphries and Diego “sacrifice” Camacho were getting impact for their team for the whole series, forcing a quick 2-0 over Take Charge, 16-7 and 16-3 to send them to the lower bracket.

#3 Limitless 2-0 #6 Reign

Limitless has an arsenal of firepower, but it was Adam “Grizz” Golden and Matthew “scar” Bruni who handled the bulk of Limitless’ fragging in the 2-0 beatdown against Reign. 16-4 and 16-5 wins on Nuke and Overpass made for quick affairs between the two, sending Reign to the lower bracket.

#2 Eros 2-0 #7 Orion

The two teams were inseparable through the first thirty rounds of Mirage, needing the full six rounds of overtime to conclude the winner. Eros’ Nelvin “nooz” Gonzalez was the x-factor between the two parties, giving his team the edge to win Orion’s map pick 19-17. It was the same story when they went to Inferno, as nooz top fragged once again on map two to secure an easy 16-9 map win to send Orion to the lower bracket.

#8 Got Juice 2-1 #16 doodlebob

The overtime on Mirage was the tipping point of the series, as the second and third maps were not nearly as competitive in comparison. Got Juice’s CT-side was the key for the battle of map one, which is what gave them the slight edge over doodlebob, eliminating them from playoffs.

#12 Infinity 2-1 #13 LAG

The margin for error between these two teams was nearly nonexistent, with the first two maps needing all thirty rounds to determine winners. With Nuke and Dust2 splitting victors, Mirage was the stage where the score was to be settled. Infinity ran away with a 10-5 lead on T-side and never looked back, eventually taking the third map 16-10 to eliminate LAG from playoffs.

#14 EX CINERE 2-1 #11 Mad Kings

These two teams served what has been perhaps the most competitive series of the playoffs so far. Successful T-sides for both teams on Overpass set the stage for a right 16-13 win for EX CINERE. The series looked to be theirs after a dominant 12-3 half on CT-side Vertigo, but that was ultimately not the case.

Mad Kings rallied back with win streaks of five and six rounds to take the map 16-13 to send the teams to an Inferno decider. They would need 42 rounds to settle the score, but Matthew “Livid” Surma’s server-high 37 frags on Inferno got his team the right win, sending Mad Kings home.

#15 Take Flyte 2-1 #10 New Threat

Take Flyte star AWPer Umar “Umar” Qasier was the difference between the two teams, ending the three-map battle with 86 frags, 34 coming from the AWP to lift Take Flyte over New Threat, eliminating them from playoffs.
