EG White cut core member
After being sidelined in favor of Khizar "Momo" Rehman in CCT North America Series 2, Evil Geniuses have confirmed the departure of Jonathan "djay" Dallal from their EG White squad. The move sees the 29-year-old Canadian player released from his contract less than three months after EG White won Fragadelphia 17 over BIG Academy to secure Evil Geniuses their only trophy of 2022.
The departure of djay also marks the end of a long-term partnership with Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue and Ben "ben1337" Smith that began in mid-2020 when ben1337 joined New England Whalers. Despite a slight interruption on High Coast, the trio were one of the most consistent cores of the COVID and post-COVID era, regularly competing at the top of the North American domestic scene.
When djay and co. were signed by Evil Geniuses in early June it was a major boon for the squad as they had been without an organization for fourteen months at the time, something that had limited their growth and long-term prospects. Despite an underwhelming international debut at the Pinnacle Cup Championship and ESL Challenger Melbourne 2022, Evil Geniuses White maintained their position as a top squad in North America, in part due to strong form from djay.
This decision by Evil Geniuses is potentially based around the prospect of bringing in younger players like Momo that the organization believe have longer-term growth potential. Additionally, it seems to follow the trend of tinkering with their academy teams' cores, something that has also been seen with Carpe Diem/Evil Geniuses Black.
With djay out of the squad, Evil Geniuses White are now:
-
Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue
-
Ben "ben1337" Smith
-
Jonathan "Jonji" Carey
-
Wesley "viz" Harris
-
Joeseph "Muenster" Lima (Coach)
EG White are set to play in CCT North America Series 2 tonight against Eclipse at 09:00PM.
