oNe and Singularity claim last two Americas Minor spots

Both teams played incredibly close series in their fight to claim the last two spots in Berlin.

oNe and Singularity have claimed the final two spots in the Americas Minor following an intense day of matches that saw six hopeful teams exit the qualifier.

The start of day three saw Bad News Bears fall to oNe in a close 2-0 series, with the combined efforts of Bruno "b4rtiN" Câmara and Alencar "trk" Rossato ultimately help push the Brazilians over the edge.

Starting on Nuke, oNe began the map firmly in the lead after finding four of the first five rounds on their CT-side before Bad News Bears answered back with four rounds of their own. Following this, the two teams would trade the next three rounds before oNe claimed the final three rounds of the half to take the lead 9-6.

After switching sides, Bad News Bears closed the deficit and overtook oNe after finding the opening four rounds for themselves. Their lead was short-lived however as once oNe found their footing, they decisively took Nuke 16-11 by claiming seven out of the next eight rounds.

On Mirage, oNe started the map in the lead after finding the first three rounds on the T-side, however Bad News Bears proceeded to run away with the half putting up a strong defense that only allowed oNe to claim three more rounds with Bad News Bears taking a 9-6 lead. On their CT-side oNe launched a massive comeback as they claimed the first seven rounds of the half to take the lead 13-9.

Bad News Bears were not ready to capitulate though as they staved off the loss by claiming five out the next six rounds to tie things up 14-14. However, Bad News Bears were unable to force a third map as oNe found the last two rounds and closed out Mirage 16-14.

While Bad News Bears were facing oNe, The Quest fought their own Brazilian battle as they took on Luminosity on Inferno and Dust2. On their T-side, Luminosity were ruthless as they overran The Quest to take a 10-5 lead, with Ricardo "boltz" Prass leading the way in frags for his team. After the team teams traded sides, The Quest would win the pistol round however it mattered little as Luminosity quickly closed out map one by claiming six out of the next seven rounds.

After Luminosity's domination on Inferno, Dust2 proved to be a far closer affair as the opening half of the series was hotly contested, with The Quest ending the half with a slim 8-7 lead. The Quest opened the second half by winning the pistol round again, however much like on Inferno, Luminosity dominated the second half claiming the overwhelming majority of rounds to close out the map and the series with a 16-12 finish.

The third match of the day saw ATK and stand-in Spencer "Hiko" Martin face off against Singularity on Vertigo and Overpass. On Overpass, Singularity started the map with a firm lead as they closed out their T-side 10-5 finish. Upon changing sides though, ATK would mirror Singularity and return the favor, putting up a 10-5 T-side half of their own to force overtime. In overtime, Singularity looked to avoid a repeat of what happened in regulation by claiming the four rounds they needed one after another to take map one 19-15.

Moving onto Overpass, the opening half was far less one-sided than on Vertigo, as both sides traded rounds in equal numbers before ATK were able to end the half slightly ahead 8-7. After this though, Singularity ran away with the game as they found nine out of the following eleven rounds to take Overpass 16-10 and eliminate ATK from the Minor qualifier.

The next matchup saw New Identity nearly take another EPL scalp as they took the series against Envy to the distance on Overpass, Inferno, and Mirage. Mirage started off with Envy in the lead as the team claimed an 8-7 finish on their CT-side. Their lead would not be maintained for long though as New Identity absolutely shut out Envy by claiming nine rounds on their CT-side while only allowing Envy two rounds. New Identity took Overpass 16-10 in a large part due to massive performances from Skyler "Relyks" Weaver and Collin "wrath" McSweegan.

On Inferno, Envy were keen to avoid the same embarrassing fate as Cloud9 by starting off the map with a 10-5 T-side lead.  The EPL team would have a bit of a scare as New Identity found the first four rounds in the second half to nearly tie things up, but due to a massive performance from Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek, Envy forced  a third map after claiming the next six rounds in a row.

On Mirage, the map looked set to go the distance as the two American teams ended the opening half with Envy leading by a single round. Upon switching sides, New Identity attempted to put the series to bed and claim their second big upset of the qualifier by winning the first six rounds of the half to put them up 13-8.

After this though, New Identity's CT-side seemingly fell apart as Envy completely shifted the momentum by claiming the next four rounds in a row. New Identity claimed one more round but Envy's momentum could not be stopped as they closed out by series by finding the next four rounds to take Mirage 16-14. During Mirage, Noah "Nifty" Francis helped push his team over the edge with 33 frags and 101.4 ADR.

After falling short against FURIA in the upper bracket, oNe once again faced off against one of their Brazilian rivals to try and claim a spot in the Minor. Starting the action on Mirage, the two Brazilian teams ended the half with Luminosity slightly leading 8-7. After switching to their T-side, the game shifted in Luminosity’s favor, with Lucas "LUCAS1" Teles leading the way, as his team overwhelmed oNe to take the map 16-12.

On Overpass, Luminosity continued their strong T-side form as they took the opening half 9-6. With their tournament life on the line, oNe would open up their T-side by taking the lead after finding the opening five rounds of the half. Luminosity nearly dashed oNe's hope though as they claimed the next six rounds to put the scoreline up to map point 15-11. oNe was not ready to capitulate as they forced overtime by claiming the last four regulation rounds.

In overtime, Overpass continued to be hotly contested but oNe managed to creep ahead and extend the series and by taking the map 19-17.

With the series tied up, the two Brazilian faced off on Inferno in their effort to join their Brazilian compatriots in Berlin. Like Overpass, Inferno began with the teams neck and neck as they ended the half with Luminosity trailing by a single round. Upon switching sides though, oNe would continue to increase the round difference as they claimed the first three rounds to take an 11-7 lead.

Luminosity answered back with three rounds of their own, narrowing the round distance once again to a single round. Fearing another overtime, oNe came together to prevent Luminosity from taking the lead as they claimed five out of the next six rounds to finally take the series 2-1. During the extended series Alencar "trk" Rossato helped push oNe over the edge leading the server with a 1.27 rating.

The final series of the night went the distance as Singularity took on Envy to claim the final Americas Minor spot with the veto taking the action to Inferno, Nuke, and Mirage.

On inferno, Envy started the map off in the lead as they initially locked Singularity out of the bombsite with a 10-2 lead. Before the half ended, Singularity would claim the last three rounds to claim a more manageable 5-round deficit. Switching sides, Singularity managed to return the favor to Envy as they forced overtime after claiming an equal number of rounds on their CT-side.

In Overtime, Singularity came incredibly close to taking the map, and then almost forcing a second overtime although in the end Envy took map one 19-17.

Moving onto Nuke, Singularity put their proficiency in the map into good use as they shocked Envy by taking a 12-3 lead after an airtight CT-side. For their effort, once they were on their CT-side, Envy found five rounds though Singularity were able to keep them at bay and claim Nuke 16-8.

On the third and final map, Envy appeared ready to close out the series after getting off to a brisk five-round lead on their T-side. After appearing lost during these opening rounds, Singularity would turn things around on Envy as they claimed nine out the next ten rounds to end the half with a 9-6 lead. In the opening pistol round of the second half, Envy would start off by winning the round, but Singularity's form would continue as they claimed the next three rounds to climb up to 12-7. Envy found two more rounds after this, though they never made double digits as Singularity claimed the final four rounds to claim the series and their ticket to Berlin with a 16-9 victory.

During Mirage, it was all hands on deck as Ricky "floppy" Kemery, Cameron "hydrex" Kern, and Ryan "ryann" Welsh all had 1.40 or above ratings.
