FURIA change coach before Rio Major
FURIA will enter the IEM Rio Major with one strategic change: André Akkari will be behind the players during the games, instead of assistant coach Marcos "tacitus" Castilho.
Last Wednesday, after the roster lock deadline, FURIA had Akkari signed up as the coach. According to a report by Dust2 Brasil, the decision came from Nicholas "guerri" Nogueira himself with the hopes that Akkari could help the team not with tactics or game knowledge, but with his experience in tense situations.
guerri, the team's head coach, can't be with his players during Valve tournaments due to the coaching bug ban, and so it was tacitus behind the players during the Stockholm and Antwerp RMRs and Majors, as well as during the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR.
André Akkari has been an investor in the team since 2017, but well before that, he was a professional poker player. At 47 years old and with a long career in poker, Akkari has the calm and the presence of mind to keep the players on the path when the going gets rough. This will be the first time Akkari sees himself in such a position, and he will have a lot of work to do during the Rio Major, the biggest event to date for the organization.
tacitus has been the assistant coach for FURIA since the 1st of June 2021 and will continue to do so, only this time he will not be joining the team on the stage.
FURIA's first game will be against BIG on the 31st of October at 12:30PM, at the Challengers Stage of the IEM Rio Major.
