ECL S42 Relegation round one recap
The first round of ESL Challenger League S42 Relegation games kicked off, with all four series pitting one ECL-relegated team against an ADV squad. Two of the relegated ECL teams held their ground while two promotional hopefuls saw victory.
Mythic vs X13
X13 found success to start the series, taking the lead through nine rounds with impressive gun rounds on their map pick of Ancient. Mythic eventually got the read, winning five of their own to secure the half with nine. After winning second half pistol they looked poised to take X13’s map. A late game surge on CT-side won X13 ten of eleven rounds to win their pick 16-13.
After winning their pick, X13 were overwhelmed by Mythic every which way, only winning eleven rounds in the final two maps. Mythic’s dominant 16-6 win in Overpass and 16-5 Inferno victory completed the reverse-sweep to win the series 2-1.,
Victorum vs Villainous
The first map between the two was almost a series by itself, as they needed 42 rounds to separate themselves on Villainous’ pick of Mirage. The war of attrition ended in favor of Villainous, as their arsenal of firepower was too much for Victorum in the extra rounds.
After winning Mirage 22-20, it was on to Victorum’s pick of Dust2 which was all Villainous the whole way. Victorum had nothing left in the tank on map two, and they were forced to succumb to the Villainous onslaught, losing Dust2 16-5 and the series 2-0.
BHOP vs Snakes Den
BHOP showed good form in their contest against Snakes Den, securing the 2-0 with relative ease. They took off with the lead right away on Snakes Den’s Vertigo pick, winning the first four rounds en route to an 11-4 lead. The second half was more competitive but BHOP eventually closed it out on T-side, 16-11.
When the two squads went to Dust2, BHOP had no problems separating themselves from their opposition. Snakes Den secured one lone round on the defense and BHOP plowed through them with a 14-1 first half. Two rounds later, the 16-1 map win and 2-0 series win was secured.
Red Wolves vs Unjustified
Ancient was a tight contest between the two, as overtime rounds were needed to separate the two on Red Wolves’ map pick. Back-to-back 12-3 halves with strong CT-sides got us there, and it was the same thing that got the Wolves over the hump. After locking it down on defense with a 19-16 win, they moved on to Mirage.
Unjustified came into their own on their map pick with multiple win streaks on T-side to take a solid 9-6 first-half lead. After the switch, they had no issues closing the map, winning the second-half 7-1 to earn the map win 16-7. After two maps, it was on to Inferno.
Inferno was not competitive beyond the first half, with a streak of five-rounds helping Red Wolves secure the half on their T-side. After the 8-7 first half for the Wolves, it was all them on their CT-side. An 8-2 second-half beat down secured map three with ease,16-9.
Concluding last nights games, the losers were sent to the lower-bracket for one more opportunity at ECL glory, while the winners are now just one series win away from achieving the goal.
