eUnited eliminated from DreamHack Open Rio
eUnited have been eliminated from contention at DreamHack Open Rio after losses to AVANGAR and FURIA in the group stage.
In the opening match of the event against the Kazakhs, eUnited quickly found themselves on the backfoot after losing the opening pistol and the ensuing three rounds. They managed to recover, however, and even briefly led before the half ended 8-7 in the favor of AVANGAR.
The match would continue in close fashion to an eventual three overtimes, in which Alexey "qikert" Golubev was able to drag his team across the finish line, despite the best efforts of Anthony "vanity" Malaspina.
The loss set up eUnited for a match against familiar foes FURIA, who lost their opener to INTZ. The series opened with another map of Inferno, which again saw vanity and eUnited just barely come up short.
Despite their strong Inferno performances, Nuke was a different story for the North American squad, as they were only able to muster seven rounds on their CT-side. When the teams swapped sides, FURIA powered their way to the map and series win nearly flawlessly.
The result means eUnited have been eliminated from the event, and that FURIA are set for a rematch with their countrymen of INTZ.
Next up for the North American team will be IEM Sydney, followed by the second stage of ESL Pro League Season 9.
