ATK win ESEA x Fragadelphia Spring Cash Cup 6
Last weekend, the sixth ESEA Spring Cash Cup came to a close, seeing ATK secure the grand prize of $4,000 and 4,000 Fragadelphia Points over Gaimin Gladiators. This results comes off a dominant showing from ATK, who did not drop a single map throughout either day of the Cash Cup.
ATK had very little difficulty on day one of the cup, moving past Evil Genies, Broke Arm Bandits, and Spooky Squad without breaking a sweat to secure a spot in day two of the event. Things got a bit close for Gaimin Gladiators in their opening match against ESEA Advanced side Luxe, but after ultimately taking them down they moved on to day two with quick wins over Bezdari NA and Hyperspace Dark. Other notable results of the first day include Davenport University falling in their opening game against Flowers & Bees, as well as Jadan "HexT" Postma's FPL Demons edging out BHOP to secure a semifinal berth.
For their semifinal game, ATK matched up against the aforementioned FPL Demons. Gareth "MisteM" Ries led by example in this series, posting an impressive 1.48 series rating to send the mix team packing, locking down a spot in the finals for ATK. The other semifinal, which saw Gaimin Gladiators tussle with Bad News Bears, was a far more labored affair. Bad News Bears narrowly secured their pick of Overpass to start the series, but the Gladiators pulled off the reverse sweep in large part thanks to a strong showing from Brendan "Bwills" Williams, which included a 1.82 rating on the deciding map of Inferno.
ATK made fairly quick work of Gaimin Gladiators in the grand final. Starting on ATK's choice of Mirage, things were close during the first half, with ATK narrowly taking an 8-7 lead on their T-side. Once the sides swapped, the Gladiators could hardly made a dent in ATK's defense, seeing ATK secure their pick 16-9.
On Gaimin Gladiator's pick of Inferno, the first half was yet again fairly close, with ATK again securing a lead at the side switch, albeit slightly larger this time with a score of 9-6. On the T-side, ATK went on a tear, locking down six of the first seven rounds to put themselves on series point. The Gladiators were finally able to put some rounds together after this, but ATK's lead was too much to overcome as the international squad closed out the map 16-11.
ATK will be greatly pleased with their Cash Cup victory, as not only is it their first time winning a Cash Cup, but this will also serve to be a valuable confidence booster heading into ECL playoffs in a little over a week. ATK will need all the practice they can get, as they're set to match up against Evil Geniuses in their upper-bracket quarterfinal match.
