Carpe Diem win ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup 4
Carpe Diem have claimed victory in their first outing since parting ways with RBG on February 9th, besting Bad News Bears 2-0 in the finals of ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup 4. Their stellar performance in day two has granted the team $4,000 and the 4,000 Fragadelphia points, which has comfortably set up the team for an invite to Fragadelphia 16 along with travel and hotel support.
Day two started off with Carpe Diem crushing Fragadelphia LAN darlings InControl 2-0 on Mirage and Vertigo. The opening map was especially one-sided with a 2.30 rating from Jadan "HexT" Postma powering Carpe Diem to a 16-3 victory. The second map, Vertigo, allowed InControl to have a little bit more breathing room as they won the first two rounds before Carpe Diem powered up to take the map 16-8 with Jordan "jitter" Ruggiero and HexT doing most of the heavy lifting.
On the other side of the bracket, Bad News Bears fought a surprisingly close 2-1 battle against ONET4P to make their way into the finals. Starting on Ancient, ONET4P shocked Bad News Bears with a 16-5 beating largely in part due to a career-best 1.96 rating from Marco "Pol0" Hernandez. The second map, Dust2, began with Bad News Bears in the lead 13-2 after a strong T-side from the organizationless team. However, that lead began to slip away from them as ONET4P mounted an equally vigorous T-side effort to climb up to 13-15 before Bad News Bears stopped the bleeding to win Dust2 16-13 and force a third map.
On Inferno, Bad News Bears finally seemed back to their winning ways as the Pakistani duo of Saad "Pluto" Siraj and Khizar "MoMo" Rehman powered their team to a 16-5 victory to clinch a spot in the finals. Over the course of the series MoMo was Bad News Bears' most decisive player, posting a 1.27 Rating and 90.7 ADR.
Moving into the finals, both Carpe Diem and Bad News Bears were in strong form, with the Bears narrowly taking Dust2's T-side 8-7 thanks to a strong opening half from Pluto and Christopher "Swahn" Swahn. Despite their performances continuing in the second half, the map began to slip away from Bad News Bears after they won the first two rounds as Carpe Diem won nine out of the next twelve rounds to take the map 16-13.
After an exciting map one, Overpass turned out to be something of a non-event. Carpe Diem crushed Bad News Bears on their opening T-side, winning the first half 11-4 with only token resistance from their opposition. This continued into the second half with Carpe Diem only conceding one more round to take Overpass 16-5 and win the series 2-0.
