Update: RBG lose team
RBG have parted ways with their long-time CS:GO squad, marking the end of a relationship with the core of their lineup that dated all the way back to July 2019. RBG's former squad is set to play as Carpe Diem while searching for a new home.
As previously mentioned, RBG's time in CS:GO thus far has been fairly unusual among North American organizations as they have supported the same lineup for 24 months. The original iteration of the squad helmed by Austin "gmanchew" Vieira was signed prior to the start of ESEA Advanced Season 32, spending two more seasons in the division before a third place finish during Season 34 allowed RBG to qualify to ESEA Premier Season 35 through Relegation.
Despite losing gmanchew and Josh "pwny" VanGorder to VALORANT in 2021, RBG were consistently a contender in ESEA Premier playoffs, making top eight in the division five seasons in a row.
The team arguably reached their apex in mid-2021 when they attended their first and only European event, ESL Pro League Season 15 Conference, after a third place finish in ESEA Premier Season 38. Despite failing to win a single series, RBG raised heads by taking a map off of Movistar Riders and later playing a close series against ORDER.
Dust2.us reached out to Jadan "HexT" Postma and Tommy "Axed" Ryan, with the duo saying that they enjoyed their time under RBG but ultimately decided to leave due to the organization not presenting new contracts for the team. Additionally, they said the lineup are planning to try and find an organization that can offer a better salary to the team.
Carpe Diem are now:
-
Colby "Walco" Walsh
-
Jadan "HexT" Postma
-
Jerric "wiz" Jiang
-
Connor "chop" Sullivan
-
Jordon "jitter" Ruggiero
-
Tommy "Axed" Ryan (Coach)
Carpe Diem will be making their debut under their new tag tonight in ESL Challenger League Season 40 against Orgless at 8PM EST. The team currently have a 1-0 record following their win over Third Impact on January 25th.
Update: RBG's co-founder Michael "Meswannjr" Swann reached out to Dust2.us to provide a statement regarding the departure of their CS:GO lineup:
We haven’t reached a contract extension yet. I was working on a potential merger with an organization and the team didn’t want to wait.
Per Walco they were very happy with RBG and would happily re-sign, but until they see a contract they wish to explore options. There’s no ill will.
Much like Triumph & Extra Salt, RBG is exploring our options. End of the day this is a business and we need to find ways to produce revenue and mitigate costs.
Dust2.us knows from sources close to the situation that RBG is in early preliminary talks about potentially merging with Extra Salt, however no specifics or terms have been discussed at the time of this update. Extra Salt are currently without a lineup following their acquisition by Complexity. Dust2.us also knows that Extra Salt are interested in returning to CS:GO however negotiations with interested parties have yet to bear fruit.
