Orgless win ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup 3
In their first outing as a team, Damian "daps" Steele's Orgless squad has come out on top in the ESEA x Fragadelphia Winter Cash Cup 3. Their run, which saw them take down Third Impact, Strife, and ChocoCheck, has been rewarded with the grand prize of $4,000 and 4,000 Fragadelphia Points.
The second day of the Cash Cup kicked off with ChocoCheck matching up against RBG in the semifinals, with the series starting on the latter squad's choice of Vertigo. ChocoCheck got off to a strong start, going on a six-round tear before RBG was finally able to claim a round of their own thanks to a clutch from Connor "chop" Sullivan. This turned the momentum in favor of RBG for a little bit, as they secured two more rounds to bring ChocoCheck's lead down to only three rounds.
RBG was unable to keep this performance up though, as ChocoCheck shut out RBG for the rest of the half, taking the next six rounds to post a dominant 12-3 scoreline. RBG claimed the first two rounds of the second half, but this proved to be only a consolation prize as ChocoCheck marched on to match point, with a 15-5 scoreline. RBG managed another four rounds before Carson "nosraC" O'Reilly and co. closed out the map 16-9.
The first half of ChocoCheck's pick of Mirage was markedly different from what went down on Vertigo. RBG put themselves in the driver's seat early on, accruing a 5-1 lead before ChocoCheck began to close the gap. While RBG did manage to stay in charge throughout the half, their lead was whittled down to only three rounds, finishing the first half with a score of 9-6.
Any momentum RBG had going into the second half quickly vanished into thin air, as ChocoCheck put together a commanding run of nine rounds straight, putting themselves onto match and series point. RBG snagged one round to break the streak, but by this point, the damage was done, and ChocoCheck finished Mirage 16-10, punching their ticket for the grand final.
On the opposite side of the bracket, Orgless took on Strife for the last spot in the grand final, with Strife's selection of Overpass being the starting point for the series. Orgless started off on the right foot on their opponent's pick, taking the first five rounds before Strife answered back with one of their own. Shortly after, Strife was able to start closing the gap, to the point where Orgless finished the first half with only an 8-7 lead, a far cry from the dominant showing they had at the outset of the map. But on their T-side, a switch seemed to flip for Orgless, as they proceeded to sweep Strife aside for eight rounds straight, stealing away Overpass with a 16-7 scoreline.
Despite an unfortunate end to the first map, Strife regained their composure in the opening rounds of Orgless' pick of Vertigo, claiming five of the first six rounds for themselves. Orgless were not phased by Strife's run, as Orgless replied with their own spell of seven rounds before Strife mustered two of their own at the end of the half.
The second half of Vertigo proved to be very similar to the first, in that Strife held the reins early on, as they locked down seven rounds straight, with Orgless mounting a lengthy comeback. Although Strife was the first to reach match point, Orgless was not dissuaded, as they marched on to force overtime. Overtime proved to be a grueling affair, eventually reaching double overtime where Orgless closed out the map 22-18, securing themselves a grand final match versus ChocoCheck.
Orgless' pick of Ancient kicked off the grand final, with daps and Michael "Swisher" Schmid spearheading Orgless' success in the first five rounds. ChocoCheck snatched a round to stop Orgless' streak, but that didn't keep Orgless down for long, as they carved out a 9-2 lead for themselves. ChocoCheck found their footing in the latter part of the half, managing three more rounds before the half came to a close with Orgless leading 10-5. The second half of Ancient was brief, as Orgless put a stop to ChocoCheck's offensive for six rounds straight, swiftly bringing an end to the first map, 16-5.
ChocoCheck's choice of Inferno initially looked as if it was going to play out very similarly to Ancient, with Orgless hitting the ground running with a five-round streak on their CT-side. This time, however, ChocoCheck were determined to not let their opponent's lead build, as they kept pace with Orgless for much of the half, eventually cutting down their lead to only a single round by the end of the half.
ChocoCheck found themselves leading in the second half following victories in the pistol round and the subsequent anti-eco. ChocoCheck secured an 11-9 lead before Orgless evened things up, with the remainder of the half consisting of the two sides trading rounds back and forth. A half-buy victory from Orgless at a 13-13 scoreline dealt a devastating economic blow to ChocoCheck while also giving daps' men the momentum needed to finish the match, closing out the map and series with a score of 16-13.
