Oderus: "[Singularity] always have the upper hand"
With N3rd Street Gamers' Eastern Conference Championship coming to a conclusion, Joe "tolkienfanatic" Cardali had a chance to talk about the event and the year with Spacestation player Chad "Oderus" Miller.
How do you think the event went considering you are here with a mix?
I think it went pretty well until playoffs when we knew we had to play FURIA, we didn't really care about anyone in groups. FURIA are definitely a tough team, they're in the finals right now but we had a good run [against them]. Mirage was definitely terrible, but we could have taken a map off them on Train so they definitely seemed beatable, but it's not too bad for a pug team.
Yeah, what happened on Train? Because you guys had a big lead and then kind of let it slip away.
I think we were doing defaults and just didn't have any answers. vSa wanted to switch up the pace but we didn't really know what their moves were and everything, so we just went for fast B and fast A.
You joined up with Spacestation in mid-October, walk me through how that happened because you ended up joining the team with DAVEY a week after [Spacestation] signed the team.
I was playing with cantwinalan and I didn't get any messages or anything but probably during the mid-season. I got a message from Infinite asking if we could talk for a while, so I went into the Discord and their whole team was there and DAVEY was too. They were just talking and they wanted to try me out, but I didn't want to leave my team because I wouldn't have any time to try out, all I do is practice with them so I said, "either you are going to sign me now or I am not going to play with you guys." They waited a few days and they got back to me.
Since then, Infinite is out of the team and you guys are playing with gMd, what was the motivation for benching Infinite?
He is a difficult player to play with, he is really passionate about how he plays, just a lot of internal issues that we wanted to fix. We thought that he could have been the biggest reason for the issues, but he is still an amazing player. Like there is nothing wrong with him we just don't think he fits in our team well.
Over the past few months you guys have developed a bit of a rivalry with Singularity, so what do you think of those guys and how you keep on running into them?
They're really good, they always have the upper hand. Their playstyle is perfect to ours like they always counter us, they're really amazing. We're always trying to practice, and they keep beating us but hopefully we get to beat them soon.
Can you go into more depth about what in their playstyle counter your team's playstyle?
I think we are really slow and waiting for pushes and they like to push around together so just starting mid-rounds they catch us off-guard when we are about to do strats. They're always ready to flank and be ready to just gamble stack and trade.
What are your thoughts on Grim and Snakes, and getting to play with them now?
I'm really honored, they're actually insane like to know that they just have raw fragging ability and they are really good at communicating. They're really really good, I'm happy to be playing with them.
Looking forward to next year and next season, who are the teams that you are looking out for, and what are your expectations next season?
Hopefully we get first place because I've been in MDL forever so I'm at least trying to win something. I think Singularity, Vireo.pro, basically the same teams from this season are all doing really good so if no one makes roster changes and if they keep grinding I think it's going to be a really competitive season.
The fact that this season will be a training season, what does that mean for morale and energy for your team?
I mean considering its money like I think we are still going to practice no matter what and always try to beat the teams like Singularity because of that rivalry. So, I think that just because its a training season, we still need to be focused and ready for the move-up season.
Speaking of money, you've bounced around a lot of orgs in your time, how does Spacestation compare to previous orgs you've been on?
A lot of orgs you don't really get to talk to them, you just talk to the General Manager, you don't really know a lot about the org, you just sign a contract and not talk about much. But, Spacestation they're 20 minutes away from my house like I've gone to their office. They're all really cool dudes and they've helped me out a lot like letting me borrow a new PC. Before I was playing on 90 FPS my whole career and now, I'm on an amazing PC and they are helping me with anything I need.
Oderus and Fragging for Andy finished the N3rd Street Gamers' Eastern Conference Championship in 5th-8th place, after being knocked out by FURIA 2-0.
