cs_summit 3 day two wraps up; NRG ascend to Upper Bracket Final
The second day of the third cs_summit wrapped up in Los Angeles with NRG succeeding in the upper bracket while Ghost and compLexity have begun their lower bracket run, each gaining wins as well.
The first upper bracket semifinal matchup played out between NRG and Heroic, marking the first time the teams have met since season seven of the ESL Pro League Finals. Kicking off on Nuke, Heroic were able to capture the first pistol round, to only have it stolen by three quick rounds from the North Americans. Answering back with three rounds of their own Heroic bounced to a 4-3 lead, NRG would secure two more rounds before the terrorist assault from the Danes would take them to a 9-6 lead at halftime.
Increasing their lead to six with another pistol round, without being eco'd immediately after again, Heroic seemed poised to take their map pick before Vincent "brehze" Cayonte popped off winning the next 10 of 12 rounds, taking Nuke 16-14.
Completely gassed from the previous map, Heroic continued to struggle against the NRG terrorist aggression on Overpass, garnering a measly three rounds in the first half on their CT-side.
Winning their third pistol round of the series, Daniel "mertz" Mertz and co. were able to get an economy going to start a potential comeback, but only managing to gain a familiar three rounds again granted NRG the 16-6 win.
OpTic stayed strong in keeping their event run spicy as a matchup against BIG went the distance in the three map series. Keeping Dust 2 close, a 31-frag performance from AWPer Jakob "JUGI" Hansen saw OpTic win eight rounds on both sides of the map, edging out BIG 16-13.
The win momentum would be brought to a halt by the Germans whose defense on Nuke seemed impenetrable, leading 13-2 at the half. The Danish attempted their comeback, taking a five round win streak at the start of their own CT-side, but with only three rounds to secure, BIG snagged Nuke 16-10, taking the final duel to Overpass.
While seemingly silent on Dust 2, Tizian "tiziaN" Feldbusch continued a rather pedestrian performance on the team's first half, staying close at 8-7, but turned on the jets in the final half of the series. Losing the pistol and only a single round after, tiziaN lead his men for eight straight rounds, and an upper bracket final advancement.
The first lower bracket round featured Ghost looking to rebound after their loss to NRG against Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas' Kinguin squad. Josh "steel" Nissan decided on taking Train again, like he did against NRG, but quickly found the victory was not going to be easy to take against the Poles. While streaky 11-4 halves plagued the NRG matchup, Kinguin kept the map tight in the first half, actually taking the 8-7 lead.
Despite switching to the CT-side, Ghost struggled to get the win swiftly and cleanly as a pistol round win lead to an 11-7 lead for Kinguin. Through a series of back and forth round streaks, Matthew "Wardell" Bowman's 24 AWP kills (of 25 total kills), were able to secure the map 16-14.
In the first match of Cache for the event, the map continued to show a series of narrow margins with Kinguin taking the first seven rounds, and Ghost clapping back with eight straight of their own, ending the half at a clean 8-7. With less clean round streaks, the Polish side took the maps second pistol round, but couldn't turn it into a comeback that would see the lead again. With the map tied at 11-11, Ghost walked away with five continous rounds that saw them steal Cache 16-11 and the series 2-0.
The longest series of the night went to the final matchup between compLexity and G2 that saw four total aces between them. G2 bought into picking Dust 2 first, which went the way of the French thanks to a strong performance from star player Richard "shox" Papillon. compLexity staggered in the first half, winning only two rounds in between G2's 13 round destruction.
After losing the second pistol and going to map point, compLexity tried one last ditch effort taking six straight, but wouldn't see themselves go into the next map with the series lead after the 16-8 loss.
The remainder of the series did not feature the likes of landslide halves as Inferno saw the first close half the teams would continue to see with compLexity taking it 8-7 on their terrorist side. While an eight round T-side on Inferno can lead to an easier CT-side, shox made sure life was not easy for the North Americans, taking them to overtime with eight rounds of his own. Unfortunately for the baguettes, they overstayed their welcome and were burnt for four consecutive rounds, losing the map 19-16.
Cache continued to fuel the fire between the East and West with compLexity leading the first half once again, this time out-doing themselves by a single round, taking G2 9-6. With the four rounds acquired at the end of the first half, Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro fragged out with Kévin "Ex6TenZ" Droolans to take another nine rounds at the start of their T-side. With a little UK CS magic, Rory "dephh" Jackson brought his team back from the 15-9 deficit for the second overtime of the series.
Putting up a little more fight than the first, G2 took two rounds in OT to ultimately fall short to compLexity again, losing the series 2-1 and causing the team to pack up early.
