oNe and Bravado to Toyota Master Bangkok qualifier final
The semifinals of the Toyota Master qualifier finished last night, and while it saw both games being played, neither of the North American teams competing succeded.
First up saw the best-of-three match between Gorilla Gang and Brazil's oNe. The two teams dueled on Inferno, Dust2 and Train. Inferno began as a near-whitewash for oNe, taking a 14-1 first half before following it up with the required two rounds in the second half for a 16-4 win with Victor "iDk" Torraca leading the scoresheet.
A closer Dust2 followed, with Gorilla Gang taking a strong 11-4 lead in the first half, with Victor "food" Wong being his team's strongest performer. The second half was a more difficult battle for the Americans, with oNe taking the first six rounds of the half before Gorilla Gang were able to get back into the match. After a small round trade, the American team were able to pick up the final four rounds played to even the series with a 16-11 win.
The final map saw oNe comprehensively control Train. The Brazilians started out with a 7-0 lead in the first half, and although Gorilla Gang were able to pick up some rounds at the end of the half they ended it 11-4 behind. The Americans were unable to repeat a feat similar to that of oNe, as the Brazilian team closed up the series with a 16-5 win.
The second game was a match between Bravado on Ghost, played on Mirage, Inferno and Train as a decider. Mirage commenced with Ghost picking up the initial rounds, before the two teams wrestled the lead between them. It was the South Africans who would take the controlling portion of the half at the end, going in at the break 9-6 up. The second half started off fast for Bravado, as they secured the first six rounds to put themselves on map point. Ghost stopped them from being able to complete the game for another six rounds, looking for overtime, but Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek and co. took a 16-12 win.
Inferno followed, and it was a better start for Ghost. Losing the pistol round, a force in the third round saw them start to mount a strong lead. Matthew "Wardell" Bowman and co. weren't out just yet was the message, securing a 10-5 lead to grab a hold of the match. But Bravado proved to be stronger in the second half, taking away the Canadians' lead with a six round run. From there the South African team battled to keep a narrow lead, before finishing up with another 16-12 win.
This leads Bravado and oNe to the Toyota Master qualifier final, with the winner headed to Bangkok, Thailand for the $100,000 main event. While the event was originally scheduled to be played tonight, it has been postponed due to conflicts with the ECS Season 6 Challenger Cup.
