Splyce win ROG Masters 2017 Americas Finals over Ghost
The best-of-five series began on Cobblestone. Ghost got off to a good start on their own map by winning the pistol, but were handed a second round loss courtesy of Daniel "roca" Gustaferri doing some headshotting and such with his Scout. Splyce would win the following round as well, marking their longest win streak of the half, which would finish 10-5 in the favor of Ghost.
The second half began as a near mirror of the first, with Ghost taking the pistol, then being denied the following round by Splyce — though this time the Scout heroics came from David "DAVEY" Stafford. Splyce would ultimately reach eight rounds, at which point Ghost powered over them until they had won sixteen of their own.
The match progressed onto Inferno, and the strange pistol shenanigans did not stop here, as Ghost again took the pistol only to have Splyce win the next round. Ghost would in fact be unable to win consecutive rounds for the entire half, something which DAVEY and Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen would not allow them to forget with merciless trashtalking.
Ghost would win the second half pistol as well, their fourth of the series. But with Matthew "Wardell" Bowman clearly not being comfortable wielding the AWP and yielding it over to Phong "bee" Nguyen, they were never able to get much going on their own Counter-Terrorist side. Splyce would take the map 16-9, evening the series.
Train kicked off with a yet another pistol round win by Ghost, who followed it up with the usual 2 subsequent rounds. The Connor "CONNOR93" Glover-led team took the first gun round as well, but in round six, Splyce decided to switch to a double-AWP setup. This, combined with a triple kill by roca, began a long string of dominant round wins by Splyce. After losing seven straight, bee pulled out a miraculous quadruple kill and helped to end the half 7-8 for his team.
Ghost continued their perfect pistol round record, and swiftly got themselves to 10 rounds. This led into quite a few rounds where neither team was able to win two rounds in a row until round 25 where Ghost pulled ahead with three in a row. bee once again killed four members of Splyce to put his team on map point. Despite a few desparate round wins by Splyce, Wardell put the final nail in Splyce's coffin and Ghost took the map 16-13.
Map four - Nuke - started off with Splyce's first pistol round of the entire series. Ghost won a few scrappy rounds here and there but for the most part, Splyce was in control of the half. The entry-fragging of roca led Splyce to round after round on the Terrorist-side, until Ghost and Wardell pulled it back near the end to finish with a 9-6 half for Splyce.
The next pistol round went back towards the way of Ghost, but Splyce won the following force-buy. On the 18th round, it came down to a 1v1 between roca and Sebastian "seb" Bucki. seb accidentally fell down from heaven into hell and died from fall damage, and allowed Splyce to win another round. Many of the rounds were close, but Ghost gained ground on Splyce, until 13-13 when Splyce won an eco round, swinging the momentum to their favor. SEMPHIS then closed out the map 16-13 with a ninja defuse on the A site.
The final map began with a clean pistol round win for Splyce, their second for the series. Ghost however, took the first gun round, and were able to convert it as well. seb and Wardell continue to power Ghost to a large T side lead. After seven in a row, Splyce finally secured a round, and were able to prevent the economic reset, putting themselves up to five rounds. Splyce then finished out the first half with 8-7 lead.
roca kicked off the second half with a spectacular triple kill, putting Splyce in a perfect position to finish out the map from the T side. They carried their momentum over from the previous half, and got onto a roll, upping their round win streak to eight rounds. seb pulled off a critical clutch for his team in round 22, and was almost single-handedly keeping his team in the game. His clutch however was in vain, as Splyce reset Ghost each time they won a round, and Taylor "Drone" Johnson's team closed out the final map 16-9 and the series 3-2.
With this win, Splyce has secured a spot at the ROG Masters 2017 World Finals in December, where they will face off against teams from Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
