Ryu returns on Renegades
Steve "Ryu" Rattacasa has returned from a period of silence to take up a coaching role for Renegades on a trial basis. The former CLG coach and Selfless owner has been laying low since the CLG roster went their separate ways back in November.
Ryu explains in a Twitlonger that he has been helping Renegades as an analyst for "several months", helping former coach Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović to prepare for LAN events and online league matches. Although it is unknown just how long Ryu has been with the team, he mentions in his Twitlonger that he was "excited to see the progress" the team made while he and kassad were helping behind the scenes.
kassad's departure from Renegades came as a surprise to Ryu, and soon after the management approached him with an offer to try out as the head coach of the team.
Ryu will be joining Renegades as they depart for ESL One Cologne, set to kick off in the first week of July. He'll also be headed to London for the Asia Minor shortly after, where the team will attempt to qualify for the FACEIT Major.
The Australian-Norwegian-North American mix have had lackluster results lately after impressing earlier in the year. Losses to GODSENT, Gambit, compLexity and NRG at their latest LAN appearances leaves a lot to be desired, and with Ryu's reintroduction they'll hope to impress in Cologne after taking down OpTic 3-1 to qualify for the event.
With the addition of Ryu, Renegades roster is now:
- Aaron "AZR" Ward
- Karlo "USTILO" Pivac
- Justin "jks" Savage
- Noah "Nifty" Francis
- Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad
- Steve "Ryu" Rattacasa (trial coach)
Renegades are set to appear in the closed qualifier for ESL One New York on June 25th-26th, with the team departing for ESL One Cologne shortly after.
