compLexity lose to Gambit; out of DreamHack Open Summer
The Group B decider match saw compLexity face off against Gambit in a best-of-three, with the winning team moving on to the DreamHack Open Summer semifinals. The two teams looked to compete on Cache, Inferno and Mirage.
Cache began with Gambit opening up the T-side, but compLexity had a strong hold on the half. Taking eight rounds in a row in the first half, it was Shahzeb "ShahZaM" Khan being the lead performer all map, taking a 1.54 rating after securing 31 kills. compLexity managed to take a 9-6 lead into the second half, but it went wrong from there. Gambit took nine rounds in a row to position themselves immediately on map point. Although the North Americans managed to take enough rounds to move close to forcing overtime, it was the Kazakhs who secured a 16-14 win.
Inferno was the second map, and it was a similar story to the first. compLexity had a good start to the first half, reversing Gambit's pistol win to take seven rounds in a row, before their adversaries managed to be even at the half with a 8-7 score. The second half was a near-complete shutout for Gambit, as after losing the pistol round they allowed Abay "Hobbit" Khasenov to be released for them to take nine rounds in a row to claim the win at 16-9.
This result means no North American-based teams remain at the Swedish event. Gambit move on to the semifinals where they'll face Imperial, whereas North are set to take battle with OpTic.
