Rogue weather Fragsters storm; to DreamHack Austin Grand Final
Rogue taking on Fragsters was the first semifinal in Austin today. The two teams were hoping to be the first team to secure a grand final berth when they faced off on Nuke, Inferno and Dust 2.
Nuke was the starting map, and it was Rogue who took an early lead by starting the game at 5-1. The first half was set to belong to Martin "stavn" Lund and his 106.6 ADR, however, as Fragsters took a 9-6 lead. The second half was more in Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland's camp, with the Australian going in at 1.58. Rogue battled back, defending the CT-side with ease and preventing Fragsters from getting back into the game after taking the lead for a 16-13 win.
Inferno was another close game, but this time it was Fragsters more in control. After never being behind past the pistol round, stavn once again held the line for his team as they pushed to even the series, starting with another 9-6 halftime lead. In contrast to the first map, Fragsters didn't let their guard down, constantly remaining in the lead as they took the 16-11 win. But stavn wasn't the strongest Dane in the server, that title went to Casper "cadiaN" Møller with 26 kills and a 1.50 record.
The decider was Dust2, and Rogue were ready to mean business. After picking up the forcebuy win in the second round, they went on a nine round unbeaten run in the first half. Rogue only ended up losing one more round in the entire half, taking a near-unassailable 13-2 lead to the second half. From there they pushed back after dropping the anti-eco, and the following two rounds, to eventually claim a 16-5 win. Hunter "SicK" Mims took the top performer credit in the map with a 1.73 record, only just ahead of cadiaN.
This sees Spencer "Hiko" Martin and co. to the finals, where they'll face the winner of Heroic or Space Soldiers at 6pm EDT.
