SK take down North, to upper bracket final
The first upper bracket semi-final game of the day saw Brazilian SK take on the new Danish squad of North. With both teams coming off of the back of dominant victories against their previous round teams, the two were to take battle on Cobblestone, Inferno and Overpass.
Cobblestone began with North's T-side opening up with a narrow pistol round win. Staving off a forcebuy from the team from Brazil, North managed to push up to four rounds, with Philip "aizy" Aistrup securing three kills to keep them ahead, for now.
Round five was the effective first full buy for SK, but this is where they made it count. For the next 10 rounds the Brazilian team went unanswered on each win, with Marcelo "coldzera" David showing his expected performances. With SK taking a strong lead in the match, North's final first half round came right at the end, with an Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen 4k. This saw the Brazilians take a 10-5 advantage into their T-side.
SK began their T-side strong, taking the pistol round and following it up with the two anti-ecos. North secured the first buy round with a strong display beginning from Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså, taking a starring role in multiple rounds, allowing his team to get back into the game with seven unreturned rounds, taking it close to evening the game at 13-12.
But SK were back to showing why they have a ridiculous unbeaten streak on Cobblestone. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo and Ricardo "boltz" Prass opened up a bombsite to shore up their lead, before pushing straight onto match point in a similar circumstance. MSL's side staved off the end of the match for a further round as they looked to fight for overtime, but it was FalleN's team to secure the first map with a 16-13 win.
Inferno began with a strong North T-side pistol win, followed up with the two anti-ecos. The first buy round saw a strong SK side to take a seven round unbeaten streak, keeping up their strong performance from Cobblestone. With Fernando "fer" Alvarenga taking multiple multi-kill rounds throughout, he was back to showing his strengths.
With SK looking to be strong again, North finally pulled out a strong few rounds, as aizy woke up to secure a handhold back in the game. With North closing the gap, SK secured the final round in the half thanks to a FalleN 4k, taking a 9-6 lead for the Brazilians.
The second half saw North picking up the pistol round on their CT-side, but SK forced straight in to maintain their lead. From there, fer and co. secured five rounds in a row to reach the important 14th round, with Epitacio "TACO" de Melo taking a key role in each round win.
But North weren't done just yet, as new recruit Markus "Kjaerbye" Kjærbye woke up to take more of a starting position in the game, taking three to keep his side in the game. This saw North secure seven consecutive rounds to even the match up at 14-14, leaving the two sides on a shootout to get the upper hand before an overtime.
Round 29 was claimed by SK, with the Brazilians planting themselves firmly on match point without losing a player. But SK wasn't to win just yet, as North performed nigh on the same when defending both bombsites, only losing one player. This left the game at a 15-15 scoreline and took the cs_summit 2 to it's first overtime.
The first round of overtime saw SK open their new T-side with the first round, with a simple site take before North followed up with the next two rounds with a crisp set of site defences for a 17-16 lead. North began the second half of overtime by putting themselves on match point, before SK followed up to keep them within the match, before FalleN took three to secure the B site for another overtime.
Kjaerbye secured a 1v4 win to personally keep North in overtime advantage, just for SK to eliminate his teammates in the following round. North kept going in the next round, however, with aizy halting a defuse from SK less than a second from completion for a 20-19 lead.
The Brazilian side evened the game up when they picked their T-side up once again, thanks to a marvellous 2v5. From there SK picked up the next two rounds to head back onto match point, before the Brazilians secured a dominant final round for a 22:20 win.
This result sends SK to the upper bracket final, and North heading to the lower bracket semi-final. The next game up at cs_summit 2 will be Liquid taking on Cloud9.
