Striker warned teams to stop exploiting this loophole

VRS now counts forfeits as normal losses, according to Striker

A problematic loophole has now been closed.

Valve recently made changes to their Valve Regional Standings (VRS) to stop teams from taking advantage of a flaw in their system.

Before, forfeit losses did not count as normal losses did in the VRS, so if a team knew they had little chance to win a match, they might benefit from forfeiting the bout in order not to lose points in their respective VRS region. A team may also have chosen to forfeit the game if they had a lot to lose in terms of VRS points, relative to the amount they might have gained.

According to HLTV's Editor-in-Chief Milan "Striker" Svejda, Valve were trying to get forfeit losses to have the same weight as any other losses, and they did so shortly after his original post on X.

This comes a day after OG forfeited a match a day before playing Astralis, citing the team "wasn't in a condition to play", prompting Striker to comment on how the situation "is getting out of hand".

It appears that Valve have addressed this concern, but it will be interesting to see how else they will adjust the VRS in the coming months, as the ranking system is still in its infancy.

Some organizations have already voiced their concern in an open letter to Valve, stating that the tier-two scene will die if major changes aren't made to Valve's new VRS.
