PGL moves Buenos Aires event to Europe, adds more qualifiers to 2025 schedule
As part of the company's 2025/2026 schedule announcement, PGL revealed that the upcoming event that was to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been moved to Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
PGL says the decision is due to an "exceptionally busy CS2 calendar with numerous back-to-back events," so the organizer is opting to move the event to Europe to make it easier for the EU teams to participate.
The Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca has played host to a number of Counter-Strike events in the past, most notably the DreamHack Major won by the French Team EnVyUs roster in 2015.
PGL Cluj-Napoca in February is the first stop on the organizer's 2025 circuit of events. The circuit will stay in Romania and head to Bucharest in April, before traveling to Astana, Kazakhstan in May, then Belgrade, Serbia in October. All four of these locations will be revisited in 2026 as well.
After Cluj-Napoca, PGL will begin using an expanded qualifier format following a wave of community feedback. All regions will now make use of open qualifiers. Eight of the 32 teams competing at each regional closed qualifier will come directly from four open qualifier events.
The 16-team pool at PGL Cluj-Napoca will be entirely determined by Valve Global Standings.
