Former OpTic star launches esports organization
Former OpTic and Cloud9 player Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas has announced the creation of his own esports organization, Otakar Esports, which launched with a teaser trailer on November 23rd. The transition to organization ownership comes after a colorful career for the 29-year-old Spaniard which saw mixwell compete at the top of the CS:GO scene for a number of years before transitioning to the VALORANT scene in 2020 with G2.
After two years with G2 in VALORANT as a strong contender in the early years of the game, mixwell transferred to Spanish esports organization Heretics, where he played out the final year of VALORANT career before retiring in late 2023. Since then, mixwell has focused on streaming and now organization ownership as he has become the latest player to found an organization.
The trailer offers few details on what games or regions the organization aims to expand into, however, based on mixwell's focus on the VALORANT scene in recent years and the trailer being in Spanish it is likely he will stick close to home at least initially.
However, with the CS2 circuit set to open up massively in 2025 with new TOs and more tournaments than ever, perhaps we could see mixwell return to his home game, albeit as an owner rather than a player this time around.
